Module 01 · Homework Task 2
Starting Your Pitch
Completing this second activity will put you in a strong position to pitch your startup — complete it today before moving on. Your answers save automatically as you type.
Write Your Founder Story
- Why you started
- What problem you saw
- Why you're the right team
In 200 words or fewer.
Make it deeply personal if possible — ideally emotional. Make it connect with the audience: is it a struggle they might share? Or someone they know might share?
When talking about "Why you're the right team" — apply this to the candidate you're targeting too. What would also make them the right person to join?
Write Your Pitch
Take the notes you made on each of the 4 Pillars.
Now write a paragraph covering all 4 — showing why a candidate should care about your startup and why they should join you. Make sure the points are unique to your company only, and not true of any other startup.
Then — paste your pitch into Claude and ask it to improve it using the key principles of sales and marketing: appealing to self-interest and highlighting how it will positively impact their career.
Review Your Marketing Material
Go through all of your long-form candidate-facing material: your website careers section, your job descriptions, your LinkedIn company page, etc.
Read it as a candidate would. Within 1 minute of reading, does it communicate your:
- Team credibility
- Interesting technical challenges
- Mission and values
- Compensation & rewards
If not, make a note of what's missing and begin re-writing each one to strengthen it.
Note: We haven't touched on your Founder Personal Brand directly here — that will be covered in Module 04, Building a Pipeline of Candidates.
